Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This privacy policy describes how the "AutoSputnik" application collects, uses, and protects your data when using our service. By installing and using AutoSputnik, you agree to the terms of this policy.

2. Data We Collect

We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the app's features, including:

  • Information about your vehicle (make, model, mileage) that you enter manually, used for service reminders and analytics. This data is stored locally on your device.
  • Geolocation data — requested and used only at the moment you actively use the "Roadside assistance" (to find nearby services), "Where did I park?" (to save your parking spot), and "AutoScout" (to define a search region) features.
  • Information about your expenses (fuel, repairs, insurance), which you enter manually or add via the receipt scanner. This data is stored locally on your device.

3. Third-Party Services (AI Features)

The AI features of AutoSputnik (the AI Mechanic chat, AutoScout car finder, and receipt analysis) require a personal API key that you obtain yourself from Groq (groq.com). When you use these features:

  • Your questions, the car context, and the text of your receipts are sent directly from your device to the Groq API for processing.
  • This data is transmitted under your own personal Groq API key, over which the app developer has no control.
  • The AI's responses are governed by Groq's own privacy policy, available at groq.com/privacy-policy.

If you do not wish any data to be sent to Groq, simply do not add an API key in Settings — the AI features will be disabled, while all other app features (mileage, expenses, reminders, roadside search, parking) will continue to work normally.

4. Roadside Assistance & Maps

The roadside assistance feature searches for nearby services (tow trucks, gas stations, repair shops, etc.) using the public OpenStreetMap Overpass API. When you use this feature, your current coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap to find results near you. See OpenStreetMap's data usage policy at wiki.osmfoundation.org.

5. Data Storage

All of your car data (vehicles, mileage, expenses, reminders, parking locations) is stored locally on your device using browser storage (localStorage). This data is never uploaded to our servers. You can export a backup at any time via Settings → Backup, or clear it by uninstalling the app.

6. Children's Privacy

AutoSputnik is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

7. Your Rights

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it at all times. You can view, edit, or delete your data directly in the app or by uninstalling it. To revoke the AI features, simply remove your Groq API key in Settings.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
